Congressional Art Competition Moves to Ludington

Washington D.C. - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, today announced that the Michigan Second Congressional District 2009 Art Competition, titled “Tapestry of Life,” has moved to Ludington through November.

“The art on display created by the participants in the 2009 contest speaks volumes about the creative young talent in Michigan’s Second Congressional District,” Hoekstra said. “I encourage local residents to visit the Mason County District Library to view the outstanding work of our local up-and-coming artists.”

The schedule for the exhibit through April 2010 is as follows:

July 1 through July 31 – Cadillac Wexford Public Library, 411 S. Lake St., Cadillac
Aug. 3 through Aug. 31 – Manistee County Library, 95 Maple St., Manistee
Sept. 1 through Sept. 30 – Howard Miller Public Library, 14 S. Church St., Zeeland
Oct. 1 through Oct. 30 – Coopersville Area District Library, 333 Ottawa St., Coopersville
Nov. 2 through Dec. 7 – Mason County District Library, 217 E. Ludington Ave.
Jan. 4 through Jan. 29 – Walker Branch Library, 1522 Ruddiman Drive, North Muskegon
Feb. 1 through Feb. 26 – Loutit District Library, 407 Columbus Ave., Grand Haven
March 1 through March 31 – Fremont Area District Library, 104 E. Main St., Fremont
April 1 through April 30 – Gary Byker Memorial Library, 3338 Van Buren St., Hudsonville

Every year all local high school students are invited to participate in the competition. Twelve pieces are selected from the collection of entries by a panel of local art professionals.

The first place entry is sent to Washington, D.C. to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol tunnel for one year. The remaining finalists, along with a reproduction of the winning piece, travel to local libraries throughout the year.CLICK HERE to view the winning entries and HERE for a list of the finalists.
